Wildlife Management
Hunting has always been part of life at Liselund. It is both tradition and stewardship-a way of living in rhythm with the land. Game management here focuses on maintaining a healthy, balanced population, particularly of roe deer, which thrive in the meadows, fields, and forest edges.
The estate is known for its strong roe deer population, and historically, Liselund has produced record-quality trophies, including a national record from the 19th century. Sustainable practices ensure that only selective animals are culled, improving the strength of the herd while protecting biodiversity. Pheasants, hares, and partridge are also present, and woodland and field habitats are managed year-round to support both game and non-game species.
Hunting at Liselund is low-impact and ethical-there are no driven shoots or large commercial operations. Currently, two long-standing hunting leases are active on the estate, and these are managed in close collaboration with the tenants to ensure high standards of wildlife care and land stewardship. Should additional opportunities become available in the future, they will be announced on the estate website.
At its core, Liselund's hunting tradition reflects a commitment to balance, respect, and continuity, rooted deeply in the landscape.
