Forestry

Liselund's forests cover approximately 128 hectares and reflect generations of close-to-nature forestry (naturnært skovbrug). The woodland is composed mainly of beech, with oak, sycamore, and the occasional ash or conifer. Self-seeding and mixed-age stands are favored over clear-cutting and uniform planting, allowing the forest to evolve organically while maintaining structure and resilience.

Much of the forest is part of Natura 2000, and its ecological value is enhanced by careful water management, minimal intervention, and the conservation of old-growth trees and glades. The forest is rich in birdlife, roe deer, and wild flora, with natural regeneration guiding its future. Historic woodland paths and scenic clearings are preserved in a way that honors the Romantic landscape vision of Liselund's original creators.

Today, forestry at Liselund is not only about sustainable timber harvesting. It is about curating beauty, ecology, and heritage, ensuring that the forest remains as much a sanctuary for nature as a part of the estate's working landscape.
